The old prison of Navata

For years, the old prison of Navata was in this building. It was usual at the time to use solid, impregnable constructions such as the towers of city walls as municipal prison cells.

This building used to be bigger, with one exterior and two interior spaces. The external part was a closed-in area with a bench in it, some green wooden crossbars providing access to the street. The pedestrians coming down Pare Planes Street would have been able to see who was being held prisoner. This part of the prison was knocked down when the square commemorating the sculptor Casamor, and bearing the same name, was built. Nowadays, only the interior part of the prison remains.
